You are brilliant.

A genius. A comic genius. Your ideas flow so well together. It is almost improv how you justify your randomness. I love the jokes, and the way they are delivered makes it impossible for them to be offensive or even considered crude. I love it. The art style, the animation, everything was awesome.

The voices were so fitting. You have a naturally cartoony voice. I really enjoy it. Fantastic job. Really.

LazyMuffin responds:

Thank yous.

Fucking loved it.

This was fantastic. Yes normally a submission like this wouldn't get a 10 because of certain art and animation choices, but this was freaking amazing. 10!

I loved it! Awesome song choices, the first dance was just awesome, and the fast pelvic thrusting...wow. I really enjoyed it. from someone who loves to dance, this was too much fun. I'm so excited for the Michael Jackson one - that will be incredible. This was funny, and just bamf to watch. Awesome job.

Nice doodles

Not a great animation, but great drawings. I think you'd be a good animator if you put some work into it. Let me know if you ever need a voice actor for a full project.

So why did you say they weren't called watchmen? They are, aren't they? The minutemen were first, then the Watchmen

snarkitysnarks responds:

Yeah, it's not so much an animation as it is a...storyboard? Interactive comic? (These are poor excuses). I sort of can't imagine doing a full-on animation, but perhaps I could get my lazy butt in gear some time.

Your offer to voice act intrigues and pleases me.

In the comic, there's the Minutemen, and then years later Captain Metropolis tries to organize the Crimebusters. That falls through, and the second generation of masked heroes never really band together for real (except Dan and Rorschach, who were already partners). "Watchmen" is only referring to the quote "who watches the watchmen," which gets graffitied everywhere when people start protesting vigilantes.

....I feel like an ultranerd.

A decent submission

Art style was not great, but not awful. There wasn't a whole lot of animation going on. This does seem like a bit of a copy of the Irod bad-type nutshell cartoons that Joe made. I think it needs a lot of work with scripting. There weren't a lot of jokes and you could have punched a lot of other obscure areas rather than making such large generalizations of the storyline. This has a lot of potential, but the dialogue was not good.

There are plenty of voice actors on newgrounds with great mic quality, so I would recommend using their talents next time. Actually, your info says you got the audio from a youtube video? If you wanted to nutshell a movie, I'd say you should hold a little contest/audition type of thread and ask voice actors to make one about a particular movie. You may get lots of hilarious ideas that way.

There are tons of great writers and voice actors on newgrounds. Don't be afraid to use them. I'd be happy to work with you on a similar project in the future and help you get that extra bit you need. Nice job. Good luck on your next submission.

MoozipanCheese responds:

Thanks for the (load of) advice. Much appreciated.

A solid animation

not bad at all, but it needs a lot of work. The narrator was not very exciting at all. The bland story-telling made it very hard to stay interested in what he was saying. There was no real character so you didn't care if he got laid. He didn't seem like a smooth lady's man or a complete loser, just a normal dude.

there wasn't much of a storyline and no real plot twists or surprises or actual events. sorry to say but the whole thing probably could have been cut down to under a minute. The delivery of the actors was very unconvincing. It isn't for them to improve, it is more of a nudge to direct a little more. As far as comedy went, it was weak and needed a more structured story so you could really get into some punching jokes.

The art style was alright, but again, it sort of matched the bland narration, there was no real animation involved. The doodles on the wall at one point made me wish the whole thing was drawn like that with some more life and frame by frame instead of constant tweens and nothing but lip sync. When they turned and they swiveled, I really was a little turned off.

Overall, a good animation, fair performance, but needs more excitement and push. The script was the real fault in this though in my opinion. Good luck on your future animations.

PostTimeskipSam responds:

Thanks for the review, l appreciate the honesty; however Narrator is actually just a normal guy, but I see where your coming from. Looking over my script there was really just dialogue after dialogue with very little direction on what the voice actors/actresses needed to deliver, which is why character didn't feel like they were interacting with each other as much. I should added more voice direction in the script.

Anyways appreciate the constructive criticism, I'll keep these in mind.

Creative!

A wild idea, never thought of before, nicely done. The great use of camera was wicked. The best part was the heat seeking one and he threw them at the screen and it whirled around, that looked amazing. Excellent job, I would have liked a little more depth with backgrounds, but it was excellent.

The voice acting itself was fine, but audio was very poor and hard to hear. Better mixing would make for a huge improvement. Great job, I enjoyed it.

it's about time.

Finally, Arin. It's about time you started using your comedy for original content. In a way, this parodies anime, but it's a parody of a style which gives you a lot more creative license than video game parodies do. I really enjoyed it. It may have been a tad long and dragged out towards the end, but the improv and jokes and humor was on.

the art was great. I really liked the thin lines and animation. The DBZ influences like Piccolo's antennae and eyebrows were evident in some of the character models.

Also, way to go the extra mile and make your own theme song, mix it and sing it. That was really creative. You obviously put a lot of work into it. I look forward to more originals. I kind of wish this wasn't a series that would be continued so that we could continue to see brand new stuff that isn't affiliated with the previous cartoons, but that's ok. I know it will all be great. Way to go, and way to grow as an artist.

Stylized and meaningful

This was great. The frame by frame was awesome and full of life. It was so fluid - we need more of this on newgrounds. The sync and performance to the music (and the music choice) were all wonderful. The dedication at the end was great.

I loved how "Bedtime" appeared and how the dresser warped in. And the drops that came from the floor and walls were so beautiful. Excellent job, a well thought out and amazingly executed animation.

Hildebrandt responds:

Thanks a lot- more is on it's way. Check me the next two or three days and you'll find my first "real" movie :)

haha very nice

This was pretty funny, and definitely an original concept. Your carried most of your weight with the jokes, which is alright, but the cartoon itself needs more life. The backgrounds and environment were an interesting style, but you could really see a lot of the pen scratches. Smoothing that out and spending a little more time on that could go a long way especially since that's what we saw the whole time. Once the BG, characters and mouths were drawn, there was nothing else to it. Needs more life in the animation, more going on, but the jokes were pretty solid.

Good writing and performance, but definitely needs more lively animation.

Great stuff

I loved it, Drew. I had a lot of fun working with you. I'm very interested to see where this is going. While I like the comedy in it, I'm more keen to see where the drama is going to take it. Strange coming from me lol.
