Stylized and meaningful

This was great. The frame by frame was awesome and full of life. It was so fluid - we need more of this on newgrounds. The sync and performance to the music (and the music choice) were all wonderful. The dedication at the end was great.

I loved how "Bedtime" appeared and how the dresser warped in. And the drops that came from the floor and walls were so beautiful. Excellent job, a well thought out and amazingly executed animation.

Hildebrandt responds:

Thanks a lot- more is on it's way. Check me the next two or three days and you'll find my first "real" movie :)

not bad

The animation was fine, could have used more movement. It was more like still drawings with small eye movements and lip sync. there wasn't a whole lot of frame by frame. That could have been improved.

The audio was good, but wasn't yours, so no plus or minus there.

The art style was cute and nice, but could have used some improvement. The white, Brawl Taunts-esk white BG was a little disappointing. But I can tell you made this just for fun, and it kind of went crazy out of proportion. Nice job nonetheless. A solid animation, but this song has been animating several times yet the "Brawl" theme sky rockets it.

Nami-Tsuki responds:

Finally someone who understands! Lol.

My next flash will have all those areas you pointed out improved. Thank you for the criticism.

needs some work.

This wasn't bad, but the beginning was very slow and uneventful. For a non-DBZer, or someone who doesn't normally watch sprite movies, this could make them close out immediately. Add something to look at during the dialogue. Voices aren't completely necessary, while it definitely helps, but the dialogue itself needs work. The lines were very half-done and out of character. Team up with a friend to write a script, and improve the text backgrounds and font color. It was very difficult to see sometimes especially around Shenron. If I sat back in my chair, I couldn't see too well.

The fighting was alright, but it wasn't anything special. Sprites limit you so you have to make use of camera angles, which you did some, but not enough. You know about SMBZ, so watch those fights. While there are few moves, he creates situations that are impossible to encounter with in-game sprites. The perfect example is Yoshi vs Mecha Sonic. That was amazing. I usually am not completely captured by sprite movies, but his fights are wicked. Take note.

The story itself was very uninteresting. Just Goku becoming Evil sounds like a very boring and flat plot. This doesn't need to be Ep 1, it could have just been "Goku vs Piccolo," because it offers little more than that. Also, the 36 time makes it seem like in a day and a half, they can pretend none of this even happened. I'd work on story, dialogue, plot devices, and improve on the fight scenes. Voice Acting is recommended, but that's up to you.

Good luck.

OLD293 responds:

I'm a Strategist, which means that I rarely ever try to ask anyone else for help to do anything as I prefer to find the answer myself. I'm not saying that I can't ask a friend to help, just saying that 8 times out of 10 I won't regardless of the outcome of circumstances (unless its dire).

The story it self is not great but I'm not good at them, so I think this is pretty decent for me. Others have said that they like the story and they it's interesting, but everyone has different opinions and I've learned I can't please everyone.

Dialogue could be improved, I won't lie. I will go watch more episodes of the actual series to try and cope with that more. 36 hours is a long time to do destructive things while evil, especially for a DBZ person...let alone in DBZ a day could take like 20 episodes because that is how they did it, but it isn't realistic but somewhat understandable.

The plot device basically ties in with the story explanation. I'm not really good at complex plots, or even making up really good ones. This is basically off the wall and I thought it would be interesting if Goku, instead of saving the day, was actually a cause for ruining the day. I didn't know any other way of going with this so I chose this way.

As for the fight scene, I entirely know that it needs work which is what I intend to do to it, so nothing else I can say about it.

Thx for the most constructive review received all day. I agree with you on most of the things you said, but based off the way I am and how I'm doing it some stuff probably won't be changed.

I don't get it...

Your last submission about the "y" was meh too. It's just tweens of symbols. There's no real art style, barely a storyline, and you threw egoraptor in there which bumps your score indefinitely. I just don't understand. Why would you even want to make this?

It has no real substance, and while it was well made, I suppose, it didn't look like a lot of effort went into it. It was a mediocre submission at best, and does not deserve Daily Feature AND Weekly User's Choice...

Why did it get it, though? Because newgrounds worships certain people? I don't understand. Why can't we just vote on the best submission as they are, trying to disregard exactly WHO made it. It doesn't make a bit of difference. If it's awesome, vote it up, if it's mediocre, vote it in the middle, and if it's bad, blam it. It seems like newgrounders haven't realized there are buttons in between 5 and 0.

The-Super-Flash-Bros responds:

I agree that most people on NG will vote in extremes, or at least thats how it feels. Can't be sure, though.

And I made this because it was fun, and its made a lot of other people laugh. Can't get fairer than that?

didn't need to be awesome

This was a pretty good submission. I was very impressed by some of your frame by frame. The mixing and sound effects were placed well. Voice acting and audio quality wasn't amazing, but not bad.

I don't think this needed to be an awesome movie. It was not as fast paced as an awesome movie, and the only thing I found "Awesome" - esk about it was the art style, but only sometimes.

You should have edited your art style a little and cleaned up a few things and made it your own stand alone parody. Ego is good with what he does, but he didn't invent video game humor, so you could totally make your own. The mech fight part was very well done.

Nice job. You are a good animator, but aim a little higher than submitting a parody of a parody. Go for parody first ;) Can't wait for your next submissions.

Galneda responds:

Not as fast paced as the awesome movies? In my opinion, I thought it was TOO fast...

Yeah, I know he didn't invent video game humor, but I'm a fan of Egoraptor's work, and in a way, this sort of pays tribute at the same time as being a flash test for myself. Granted, I could've done a much cleaner job if I wanted to, the only consequence being it would probably have been submitted in February. By the time I finally submitted this, it was a huge weight off my shoulders...so I have no regrets. :D

Thanks very much! All I can do from here is aim higher.

Very well done

Almost like a video game! Great job - this was done very well. The walking cycles were very game-esk. The mixing was very nicely done.

the best were the extreme close ups with awesome art. Very old school Nickalodeon of you a la Rocko's Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, and even Spongebob.

Jokes were well done - fbf and use of tweens were great. A great submission. You've been making lots of improvements in your recent submissions. Let me know if you ever need a voice actor

Gonzossm responds:

WILL DO :D

Nice job

Pretty good, I liked it. The mic quality is pretty low so you need to be careful when you record. Lower your input so you don't get as much audio peaking, and careful with those plosives (hard P's, T's, B's, etc). The voice acting was pretty good aside from the screaming - that could've been a little better and funny too in a GIR from ZIM - fashion.

Great animation, good use of tweens, and overall an enjoyable flash. I liked the Atreyu intro haha.

Btw, what's the font you used in your intro and credits? I've seen it in a few people's submissions, and I like it.

JunkFoodKing responds:

The font's called BadaBoom.

Yeah, I know that the mic quality sucks. I'm afraid it might suck a bit through the duration of Season 1 (up to Episode 5). I'm trying to rectify it for future submissions. Thanks for your review!

Nice frame by frame

Congrats on getting your first award! I'm glad you are very proud of this animation. I thought it was very well done. I really liked the little pixel creature. It flowed nicely with the music, and it is great that you are putting so much heart and effort into it. You say it was the hardest, and that's great that it paid off.

I'm not going to critique the lack of color or background if that's the way you wanted it. Some of the characters looked a little odd and need some working, but I can see a very LazyMuffin-esk style in yours. I'm not sure if he's one of your inspirations, but some of the bodies reminded me of his work.

Nice job - keep working, you have a great knack for fbf'ing. Screw tweens.

Fawx responds:

im starting to get reviews from some of the more famous ng users :D thanks for the review corey.

nice job on it

I told you how I felt about it last time you submitted. You kind of rehashed old awesome jokes rather than creating a lot of new ones. Some of the new jokes were funny, but you could have done a lot better, I know it. I don't like how you resubmitted it for more publicity, but good job nonetheless.

BigK was great as Snake, but didn't sound enough like Awesome Snake - for a big cast like this, you should get yourself a voice director. It seemed like a lot of the VA's weren't on the same page. Individually, they all did great, but they weren't in sync with each other. Also, I'd recommend just getting someone with a great range similar to Ego's to do all of the voices to keep the style up.

secondstamp responds:

Oh, a voice director huh? Sounds like something actually PROFESSIONAL lol

this was fun

First off, very DBZ lol.

Secondly, a lot of the times it just seemed like heavy camera zooms and tweens and very little animation. The art was great for the most part - could use improvement - but it was very good. There were just so many still images tweening around the screen. There were times with really great fbf, but it should have been that way throughout the whole thing. You definitely can do fbf, so you should work even harder on that area and improve your next submission with lots of detailed fbf like you had at points in this submission. Good luck - I enjoyed this.

Oney responds:

thanks dude, i agree with it all, i was gonna go back and fbf shit after i had animated it to the end, but i wasn't arsed. thanks for viewing!
